Democrats plan inauguration day protest

Kennet Area Democrats are planning a yard sign protest for Jan. 20, the inauguration day for President-elect Donald Trump. The protest will feature lawn signs saying ”Hate Has No Home Here” in five languages.

The deadline for ordering a sign is this Sunday, Jan. 8.
The deadline for ordering a sign is this Sunday, Jan. 8.

According to Wayne Braffman, vice chairman of the Kennett Area Democrats, the protest is designed  to remind people of the need to be  “vigilant and vocal”  regarding hate in America.

“We’re concerned about where Trump will take us…During the campaign, Trump made statements that were hate-filled toward Muslims, women and gays. That’s not what American is about,” Braffman said. “We oppose hate as a basis for political power. That kind of hate has no home in America.”

He said hate is opposed by all people, not just Democrats.

Kennett Area democrats have ordered 100 of the red, white and blue signs with a stylized U.S.  flag in the shape of a heart, and 73 are already committed. People who want to take part in the protest have until this Sunday, Jan. 8, to get a sign in time.  They can order one by going to www.kennettareademocrats.com. The lone requirement is to make a donation of any amount, Braffman said.
