Free program to focus on services for seniors

From dealing with impaired vision to obtaining handyman services, the Chester County Department of Aging Services hopes to have senior citizens covered.

The department is sponsoring a free University of Health and Wellness event on Thursday, June 2. The goal is to connect to seniors with information on a variety of health-related issues.

“This is a great opportunity for seniors to take advantage of health screenings and to receive information on the many fine services available in Chester County,” Director of Aging Services Sandra Murphy said in a county press release.

The event will take place between 1 and 5 p.m. on June 2 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 West Pleasant Grove Road in West Chester. The location is handicapped accessible with ample parking. Also, Rover transportation will provide rides to and from the event for a $1 fee each way for those 60 years old and older. To register for transportation, call Rover at 610-594-3911.

Some of the topics to be covered include vision and macular degeneration, diet and diet planning, emergency preparedness, dental information, affordable housing and hearing loss.

Clinics will include hearing loss, memory and oral cancer screening. The Chester County Health Department will conduct blood pressure, hydration and fall risk health screenings. A shingles vaccine clinic will be conducted, and participants should call 610-344-6035 to register. Finally, information on durable medical equipment and handyman services for seniors will also be available.
