Messy mix of wintry weather gripping area

The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting another spell of wintry unpleasantness for the area.

On Sunday, March 1, the chance of afternoon snow is 80 percent with an accumulation of one to two inches. By Sunday night, snow, freezing rain, and sleet are likely before 1 a.m., with a slight possibility of freezing rain between 1 and 3 a.m., a low around 28, and an additional snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

By Monday, residents can expect a one-day respite with gradual clearing and a high near 38; however, the mercury will dip to 15 at night. A northwest wind of 5 to 11 mph will make it feel even more frigid.

More snow and sleet are in the forecast for Tuesday before 4 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch is possible, but freezing rain and sleet will continue later in the evening before transitioning to rain after midnight.

The rain is expected to continue into Wednesday, but by nightfall, a 60 percent chance of a rain and snow mix is expected, a scenario that could repeat on Thursday.
