Chadds Ford in brief: House numbers and a special meeting

•Chadds Ford residents will be getting a mailing from the township Citizens Emergency Response Team asking whether they want to buy house number signs that fluoresce at night. The signs cost $20 each and will be available through the township. The mailing will cost about $1,500. The signs — to be attached to mailboxes — will make it easier for first responders to find the house at night, according to CERT’s Dennis Henry.

• Chadds Ford Township awarded its 2014 road program to Gessler Construction of Media during the Aug. 6 supervisors’ meeting. Gessler was the low bidder at $166,000.

• Supervisors also agreed to spend $1,800 to improve computer security in the township building.

• The township has scheduled a special informational meeting for Aug. 26 for residents to learn more about the possible residential development at the former Goodman property on Webb Road.

• There will be a memorial gathering for Fred Reiter on Sept. 21 at the Chadds Ford Historical Society from 3-7 p.m. Reiter was a longtime township volunteer who died July 1.

The article mentions the mailing containing info about the reflective home signs is expected to cost about $1,500. The Township may want to consider using the USPS’s Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) program, instead of traditional mailing, because it could save the taxpayers almost $800 off the expected $1,500 mentioned.

Excellent idea from Frank Rupp. Frank has helped us save money and advance our business, and I appreciate his sharing this idea to save us some tax dollars. Maybe we could put that $800 savings into an open space fund and someday have a village green with some play equipment for small children and some picnic benches and a few grills, like Pennsbury Park–or a 7/10-mile trail and beach volleyball court like Concord Twp–or a trail and basketball and tennis courts like Thornbury Park–or a trail like Birmingham Township. But come to think of it, since we are surrounded on all sides by these great resources, why do we need to add a thing? It’s perfect here just the way it is.
