Margaret Warner Chambers of Kennett Square

Margaret
(Peg) Warner Chambers of Kennett Square died Dec. 31 at the Chester County
Hospital. She was 80 years old.

Peg
was born on Aug. 16, 1929 in Muncy, the daughter of Mabel Ewing Warner and
Henry Eckroyd Warner (both predeceased). She is predeceased by her sister
Elizabeth Muth of San Antonio, Texas and her brother Henry (Buzz) Warner. She
attended Westtown School and was a graduate of Penn State University, Class of
1951. A noted horsewoman, Peg started riding when she was three years old. She
was a member of the equestrian teams at both Westtown and Penn State, and was
the riding director at Penn Hall in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania from 1951 to
1955. She rode and trained horses and taught riding in the region for decades,
winning numerous championships over the years at such venues as the Devon
International Horseshow and the Pennsylvania National Horseshow. Although this
national recognition was an honor for her, she considered her work with her
countless students over the years to be her highest achievement.

Peg
married Samuel (Chip) Chambers in 1955 (who predeceased her in 1993) and they
lived in the Kennett Square area for all of their married lives. A terrific
athlete from a young age, Peg was the physical education teacher for the New
Garden, Greenwood and Mary D. Lang elementary schools from 1963 to 1987. She
lived on Colonial Farms in Avondale from 1963 to 1976, where she was regarded
by the children who grew up there as both an extra Mom and the resident horse
expert, teaching nearly everyone who lived there to ride.

A
fixture in the local community, Peg was an avid gardener, and was a resource on
plant names for all who knew her. She was also a long time volunteer at the
Brandywine River Museum (specializing in “Critter” production), and a dedicated
bridge player.  Most recently, she lived at Brandywine Assisted Living at
Longwood.

Although
her riding was a principal focus throughout her life, she was most proud of her
family. She is survived by her three children, Samuel Lippincottt Chambers, III
of Waitsfield, Vt., Andrew Warner Chambers of Glenmoore, and Margaret (Megan)
Warner Chambers of Sudbury, Mass., her daughter-in-law Kelly Scheibe-Chambers
of Glenmoore and her son-in-law Bruce Nifong of Sudbury, Mass. She is also
survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher, Aire and James Nifong of Sudbury,
Mass. and Drew, Taylor and Bella Chambers, and Steven and Cassidy Scheibe of
Glenmoore. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Louise Warner Serio of
Kennett Square, Jon and Marywade Warner Gilbert of Dewey, Ariz., David and
Helen Raum of Ocean City, Md., Chuck and Deborah Raum Tate of Wayne, , Susan
Raum Barber of West Chester, Ken and Linda Muth, and Tom and Bonnie Muth, all
of San Antonio, Texas.

A
memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at the Kennett
Friends Meeting, with a light lunch following the service. She will be interred
at Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square in a private ceremony at a later
date.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to either the Kennett
Friends Meeting at P.O. Box 122, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania 19348 or the
Chester County Hero Fund at 820 Heatherstone Drive, Paoli, Pennsylvania 19301.

Peg’s
family would like to thank all of her friends and family who have given so
generously and lovingly of themselves over the years. Your kindness and the
gift of your time (and all of the chocolate) made her life rich and memorable,
and helped make it a life well lived.

Arrangements
by the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, Kennett Square, 610-444-4116.
